I realize this is an old post however how is the running going now with or without the orthotics? I have the same love/hate with my orthotics. I'm much slower but it does force me to strike differently on the ground and I don't have near the injuries. I run with them but race without them.

Yep, I think I might have turned the corner on the injury. At one point I planned to try and focus on shorter fast stuff for the warmer months, and I agree, it adds nicely to marathon training. But before I can race, I have to be able to do speedwork and right now I have no idea when that'll be. I won't worry about it for now. It'll come when it does.

Testing things while walking etc is a good low-risk way of doing it. Sounds like you're almost there. If it was me, I'd go with the regular racing idea. You'd probably come up with some PBs and doing a marathon build-up off a good base of speed is similar to the Italian style of coaching. Anyway, enjoy how you're running and don't worry about the pace, times and such for the time being.

Hang in there. It certainly seems as if you have the right approach with getting back to being healthy before you push things too much. A few friends of mine with tendinitis issues and some other injuries tried acupuncture with some success. I had anterior tibial tendinitis recently and used rest, Traumeel Cream and Penetrex (which worked really well), and ART.

Get healthy, ease back into it, and before you know it you will be back to your tempo pace and interval training. Although, I could probably almost maybe keep up with you now that you are sidelined!
